How one visit to Ladakh became a charity that has helped 39 children — and counting — flourish through education.
The first time she visited on a trekking holiday, Gail was struck by the beauty of the country and the serenity of the people of Ladakh, staying as a houseguest with a very special family. She could hardly have known then the close links she would forge, or the pull Ladakh would have on her in the years to come. She has revisited many times since.
"On my second visit, I revisited my family and was welcomed again into their lives. Whilst there, watching them work so hard, I felt I wanted to help. I started by sponsoring the education of their youngest son, and also the son of another family in the village."
Gail visited the principal of Lamdon School, Eshey Tondup, and talked about sponsorship — and the idea for Himalayan Children, "Helping on the path of life," was born. It costs around £10.50 a week for a child to board at school: £1.50 a day, less than the price of a cup of coffee in the UK.

A small, entirely voluntary team in the UK and Ladakh — every penny raised goes to the children, not to admin.
