The first children sponsored by Himalayan Children were boarders at Lamdon School in Ladakh, where Gail had good links with the Principal.
We place other children in local village schools too. The children write letters to their "godparents" — their name for their sponsors — and send their report cards each year; end-of-year results matter, as progression to the next class has to be earned, it isn't automatic.
We've also forged links with the Nomadic School in Puga, a residential school for children of the Changpa nomadic tribe.

As many of you may be aware, 86 percent of the children in our school are from a rural background... By setting up the school, we are providing the children modern education... an education that encourages them to think, ask questions, be curious, and solve problems by themselves."
