Himalayan Children funds the education of children in Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas — so that a family's income is never the reason a child misses school.
Founder Gail McAllister Young first visited Ladakh on a trekking holiday and was struck by the beauty of the country and the warmth of the people who welcomed her in. On a later visit, watching a family work so hard to give their children a future, she began sponsoring two boys' education herself — and Himalayan Children was born.
Today the charity works with Lamdon School and other local schools in Leh, funding day and boarding places for children whose families could not otherwise afford it.
